Some Natural Remedies For Ear Nose And Throat Ailments

By Anne Jansen

Ear nose throat illnesses are the most common ailments that
are reported each year. Most of the trips to the doctor's
office are about ear nose throat worries. The common
ailments ENT physicians treat are nosebleeds, ear
infections, sleep apnea, sinusitis, allergies, and
tonsillitis. Although there is no substitute for a visit to
the doctor's office, natural cures you can try at home
can give you fast relief.

Drinking a great deal of water and other fluids like fruit
juices can help loosen congestion. Warm herbal teas - such
as chamomile tea (for sore throat), thyme tea (natural
expectorant), peppermint tea (natural decongestant), and
aniseed and holy basil tea (for express cough relief) - also
give express relief from ear nose throat ailments.

Steer clear of alcohol and caffeinated beverages during ear
nose throat ailments. They only make your dehydration worse.

Chicken soup is not only for the soul, it is also for your
colds and cough. It is efficient in relieving cold and flu
symptoms. It acts as an anti-inflammatory and it accelerates
the movement of mucus to help lighten congestion.

If you have a sore throat, gargling warm water with a half
teaspoon of salt
can temporarily relieve the pain. Add
antibacterial action by adding essential oils such as lemon,
bergamot and tea tree to your warm salt water gargle.

Inhaling aromatherapy steam during sinusitis attack can help
unclog your airways. Adding essential oils such as anise,
peppermint, or eucalyptus to the steam inhalation offers
anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antibacterial properties
to your aromatherapy steam.

One of the best herbal medicines in the kitchen is garlic.
Its antimicrobial properties are truly efficient in curing
ear nose throat complaints, such as laryngitis and ear
infections.

Many can attest the effectiveness of herbal home remedies
for common ear nose throat health conditions. However, they
are best used as preventive measures only. Use home cures
during the first stages of the problems. Remember, don't
ignore symptoms when they persist. Make it a point to see an
ENT doctor if the complaints seem to continue on for several
days or more than usual and if you feel that they have aggravated.

Allergy Sufferer? Why You Need An Air Purifier

By Owen Jones

There are various forms of air purifier systems, so it can
be difficult to know what someone means when they are talking
about air purifying. For instance, all air conditioning
units and most central heating systems have some form of air
purification built in. In deed, the air purification filters
in most split air conditioning units are very advanced. A
similar add-on unit can be purchased for most central
heating and central conditioning systems.

However, you may not require heating or cooling units, but
you may want a dedicated air purifier. Air purification
units can greatly increase your quality of life,
particularly if you suffer from an allergy or live with a
smoker or pets.

Air purifiers or air cleaners, as they are also identified,
clean the air of pollutants and foreign bodies. However,
some air purifiers are more advanced than others, so it is a
good idea to identify what you want to remove from your air
before you buy one.

This is because not all machines will take all kinds of
filters and not all filters will eliminate all pollutants.
Some will, but not all. So if you want to clean pollen out
of the air because you suffer from hay fever, check with the
dealer that the unit that you like, can do the job.

Air purifiers will greatly help allergy sufferers and some
people do not realize that they have an allergy. Some people
are allergic to pet hairs, or dog and or cat skin particles
or smoke or traffic pollutants like tyre rubber to speak
nothing of the exhaust fumes that none of us like. So, if
you live near a road or a factory, or keep a cat or a dog,
you live with a smoker or you suffer from hay fever, an air
purifier would most likely be beneficial to you.

How you do this is clearly up to you. If you have a central
air conditioning unit already, it is probably better for you
to install an air purification system near your blower. This
method is relatively cheap ($300 - $1,000), but it will
purify the air in the whole house.

If you live in a bedsit, a trailer or a caravan and it gets
hot where you live, a split air con system is probably
better for you, but if you just want to purify the air
immediately around you, then a portable air purifier will
suffice.

One word of caution though, many of the cheaper portable air
purifying units are worse than useless because they are
burning your electricity without giving you any benefit.
These cheap models do not have the power to purify large
volumes of air and they do not have filters that are capable
of blocking the allergens that trouble us.

Why You Should Have a Varied Diet - Even If You Suffer Food Intolerance

food intolerances, food allergies, food intolerance, special diets, healthy eating, gluten free diet, food and drink, food and related products

By Charlie Monaghan Carter

If you are among the ever increasing number of people who
must restrict their diet due to food intolerances, you will
know that staying within the guidelines can be tough.

If you have a fairly common allergy or intolerance such as
dairy or gluten, then finding foods that are dairy or gluten
free
isn't too difficult, its when the intolerances get more
intricate and uncommon that they become a problem. Also,
another big problem for people with food intolerances is
eating out at a restaurant for example. A lot of the time,
chefs will not understand the implications of a given food
on a person with intolerances.

A well-intentioned chef may sometimes put a little flour
into a sauce to thicken it up, believing that such a small
amount will not trigger the intolerance. If the person does
not seize up and start choking there and then, they believe
all is well and the trace of flour went unnoticed. However
it is not until the food is digested that the intolerance
takes effect around an hour after its consumed, and then the
effects can last for several days.

Eating out is therefore very difficult for people with
intolerances to common foods, and as it is very difficult to
find good food that doesn't contain the common foodstuffs
that people are intolerant to, you will soon find that
eating out becomes a bigger and bigger risk.

For the sake of your health, it is of the utmost importance
that you avoid all foods that you have an intolerance to. It
is very hard work for your body to process these foods and
so to allow it to recover, you should stick to foods that
you know your body can handle. Having said that, if you
start eating just a few foods that you know aren't going to
upset you, you may find that you begin developing
intolerances to them as well.

For this reason it is important to maintain as wide a diet
as possible. This is sometimes difficult if people have many
allergies, a lot of the time people will find foods that
don't upset them, and stick to them so as to avoid triggering
the intolerances. However, you should try to keep eating as
wide a range of foods as you can to avoid slowly but surely
becoming intolerant to everything.

Spring Time - Watch Those Allergies

Man Sneezing into Tissue

Sneezing, stuffy head, runny nose, itchy eyes are all signs
of allergies. With Spring on it's way many are jumping to
get outdoors and have some fun. But many others are
dreading the annoying Spring time allergy symptoms that come
along with the great outdoors.

Some people think that they just tend to get Spring colds,
when instead it is actually allergies. Allergies have the
same symptoms of a cold. But, if the cold lingers or you
get them frequently chances are it is really allergies.
Your health care provider can help you determine whether it
is or not.

In the Spring pollen is the primary allergen to cause
problems. Pollen can be present as early as February
depending on your location. If you live in a hot and humid
area mold and fungus can play a big roll in allergies.

There is not much difference between a cold and an allergy.
The major difference is that a cold is caused by an actual
virus that you come into contact with. An allergy works a
little different, it is caused by exposure to the allergen.

Pollen is not the only bothersome allergen. Some are
allergic to other thinks such as; cedar, grasses, flowers,
chemicals and pesticides and even pet dander. No matter the
cause most of these allergens cause the same symptoms.

Now we have only talked about Spring allergies. There is a
whole group of allergens that cause a different reaction.
You could be allergic to something like insects, food,
detergents, soaps and medications. These symptoms can be
more troublesome. Hives, rashes and shock are all
possibilities.

If you are not sure what you are allergic to your medical
provider or specialist can perform a skin allergy test. It
is very simple. They introduce the most common culprits
into your bloodstream and watch for a reaction.

It is best to see your doctor while you are having the
troublesome symptoms. This makes it easier for them to
determine what is causing the allergy. It is not a good
idea to not treat Spring allergies, they can make you more
vulnerable to sinus and respiratory infections.
